Marketing technology for startups

Fewer platforms, configured against the plan, priced by what they deliver.

The 2026 Marketing Technology Landscape lists 15,505 products, up 0.79 per cent on the year after fifteen years of compounding growth from roughly 150 products in 2011. Underneath the flat headline, 1,488 products were added and 1,367 removed. Gartner's 2026 CMO Spend Survey of 401 marketing leaders puts martech at 19.4 per cent of the marketing budget, down from 26.6 per cent in 2021 and a five-year low, while the capability that does get bought stays substantially unused.

The practical question is not which tools exist. It is which ones a company with one marketer and one engineer should run, how they are configured against the go-to-market blueprint rather than against a feature list, and what they cost once vendors price by outcome. HubSpot moved its Breeze agents to credit pricing in April 2026 at roughly US$0.50 per resolved conversation, and Salesforce sells Agentforce at US$2 per conversation, as Flex Credits, or per user from US$125 a month. Reports filed under this topic work through selection, configuration, and the consent obligations that arrive with the data these platforms hold.
