Sequencing is a blueprint decision before it is a growth decision. It sets which market goes first, what has to be proven there before the next one opens, and what stays shared across all of them. The infrastructure is built once, with acquisition, conversion and retention tracked per market so each launch can be judged on its own numbers.
The cross-border case is documented. Cross-border e-commerce grows about 25 per cent a year, roughly twice the domestic rate, and is projected to reach about 22 per cent of all e-commerce by 2027. Southeast Asia's cross-border market is put at around US$50 billion. Shopify Markets handles more than 130 currencies from a single store and Markets Pro offers a merchant-of-record route into more than 150 countries, while Global-e cleared US$2 billion of gross merchandise value in the June 2026 quarter. In Australia, online spend reached a record A$82.6 billion in 2025, 24 per cent of all retail, with A$18.9 billion going to pure online marketplaces.
