The figure comes from the 2026 Aleph and Benchmarkit SaaS and AI Performance Benchmarks, published on 1 June 2026 and built on full-year 2025 actuals from 342 SaaS and AI-native companies. Of those, 198 reported CAC payback. The median improved from 18 months in CY-24, the largest single-year gain in the four-year series.
The spread matters more than the median. A top-quartile company recovers acquisition cost in 6 months or fewer while the bottom quartile takes 24 months or more, so two companies with the same growth rate can have entirely different capital requirements. Contract size explains much of the gap: sub-US$5,000 ACV runs to an 11-month median while the US$50,000 to US$100,000 band runs to 22 months, with a 25th percentile of 15 months in that band showing that efficient enterprise acquisition is achievable rather than typical.
Companies deploying AI agents for lifecycle email, ad copy generation and SEO content production report CAC payback three to five months shorter than non-adopters, which is the single largest reported lever on this number in 2026.
